  • There are three levels of Church governance.

    • Local - St John’s is governed by Session and Council. Session meets monthly to discuss the spiritual and community welfare of the church, while Council is responsible for much of the day-to-day administrative business of the church.

    • Regional - we are part of Central Presbytery, which is made up of ministers and elders from across our region. Presbytery meets monthly for business and faith fellowship.

    • National - St John’s is governed at this level by the General Assembly which meets every two years with representatives from every Presbyterian church in New Zealand. This is the highest level of decision-making.

St John’s is part of the wider Presbyterian Church of Aoteaora New Zealand. Their website provides more information about basic church beliefs, national activities and other church matters.
