WEDDINGS, BAPTISMS, AND FUNERALS

St John’s is a great venue for your Christian-based wedding, baptism, or funeral service.

Weddings

St John’s has hosted weddings for generations of Wellingtonians. For larger weddings, the Church can be used, or for smaller, more intimate weddings, we have the Mackay Chapel.

If you would like to celebrate your wedding here, our Minister can guide you through the basics of a service, incorporating your personalities and ideas. A pre-marriage course is not compulsory, but is highly encouraged to give you and your partner time, space, and guidance to discuss what a healthy marriage looks like for you.

Baptisms

We baptise to publicly acknowledge God’s grace in our lives. It is not just for babies - anyone can be baptised. Water is used, symbolising the forgiveness and transformation God gives us and reminding us of cleansing, restoration, and sustenance.

If you were baptised as a baby or young child, we do not re-baptise you as an adult. Instead, you would have a celebration of Confirmation to show that although your parents may have made the initial decision, you now wish to confirm that you share this faith as a young person or adult.

Contact us to discuss what is involved in baptism and how to make this response of faith for you or for your family.

Funerals

If you have lost a loved one, we are truly sorry for your loss. Having a funeral at St John’s is way to remember them, and to share the hope we have in God’s grace and power over death.

We offer a traditional Christian service framework, which can be modified to make it a special and meaningful farewell for your loved one.

Immediately following the funeral service, refreshments may be served in the adjacent St John’s Centre (subject to availability).
